A chair by Kilian Schindler exhibited at IMM Cologne in Germany. It is inspired by well-known objects found on German allotments but have been rearranged by extends their means of use to private room. This creates both familiar and strange feelings at the same time. By this ambiguity marks it’s a cool chair.

เก้าอี้ของ Kilian Schindler ซึ่งจัดแสดงในงาน IMM Cologne เยอรมัน เขากล่าวว่าได้รับแรงบันดาลใจมาจาก วัตถุสิ่งของที่คนทั่วไปคุ้นเคยพบเห็นได้ในสวนเยอรมัน ซึ่งเป็นที่สาธารณะ แต่นำมาเปลี่ยนและขยายความหมายการใช้งานเพิ่มขึ้น เมื่อนำมาใช้ในบ้านพักอาศัย เกิดการรับรู้ทั้งคุ้นเคยและแปลกใหม่ ก่ำๆกึ่งกึ่ง แบบนี้ ชอบเลย

ReLegs: Not the winner but it’s truly funny chair

The ReLegs chair by Jennifer Heier

This is the “ReLegs” chair by Jennifer Heier. Even it was not the winner in the recently announced IMM Cologne 2009 international competition for young designers but it is so impressed and pleased me so much more than the winner does. Beside from its design that could be used in 2 different positions; a side for normally sitting and a side for recliner. I think this chair is one of a never ending story. It amuses me when I’m trying to think what she as the designer was thinking about when she making this chair. I could not explain why this chair always reminds me to some certain things. Do you think to an exercise position that we all are familiar with, don’t you?

เก้าอี้ขางอ นี้ ออกแบบโดย Jennifer Heier มาตรว่าจะพลาดรางวัลชนะเลิศในการแข่งขันนักออกแบบหน้าใหม่ ในงาน IMM Cologne 2009 แต่ผมก็ประทับใจและพอใจกับเก้าอี้ตัวนี้มากกว่าตัวที่ชนะเลิศมาก ไม่ใช่ว่าเพราะการใช้งานได้ 2 แบบคือนั่งปกติทั่วไป หรือจะกลับด้านกลายเป็นเอนนอนได้ แต่เป็นเพราะว่า ผมรู้สึกสนุกในการพยายามเดาใจว่าคนที่ออกแบบกำลังคิดอะไรอยู่ขณะที่ออกแบบเก้าอี้นี้ ผมก็อธิบายไม่ได้ว่าทำไม รู้แต่ว่าคิดถึงทีไรก็นึก แต่ว่ามันช่างเหมือนกับท่าออกกำลังกายที่พวกเราคุ้นเคยกันดีเสียนี่กระไร รึคุณๆ คิดว่ายังงัยกันคราฟฟฟ

This simple but fantastic chair is one of the furnitures set called “FILL IN THE CAT”. The set was a 2006 project of the NEL, an evolving collective of Mexican designers. It was such an achivement of challenging the “Form Follows Function” design philosophy. It result was not only functioning and charming but above all challenging also.
